One of Italy’s largest wine producing areas, Puglia’s grape output has, until latterly, only been used for blending or for making Vermouth. Some winemakers who were fed up with this situation felt that the area ‘could do better’ and brought about some fundamental adjustments to the way things were being done – such as keeping yields much lower which rewards with better grapes and planting some classic varieties amongst other things.
