Aloxe-Corton Vieilles Vignes, Domaine Edmond et Pierre Cornu 2001
The hand-picked grapes are destemmed and fermented for 8-12 days in open vats and then aged in old (20%) and new oak barrels for 18 months. The powerful nose is one of wild berries and vegetal mix – tobacco and damp moss in particular, absolutely typical of the Pinot Noir grape. In the mouth, this is a fine and elegant wine but with great depth and intensity which does not disappoint. Perfect with game, mature cheese and even some quite spicy dishes.

Domaine Edmond et Pierre Cornu This Domaine was established 130 years ago in the pretty town of Ladoix making wine which was sold to negociants. It was not until the 1950s that Edmond Cornu bottled his wine under his own name. Since then he has been acquiring vineyards and now has sites in Ladoix, Chorey, Aloxe-Corton and Savigny. From the vineyard to the bottle, the process is as traditional and pure as Edmond and his son Pierre can make it form the grapes being hand picked to the wines being neither fined nor filtered.
