Saint Bris, Domaine Sorin-Defrance 2003 Saint Bris, Domaine Sorin-Defrance 2003

St Bris was recently awarded AOC status, having been VDQS simply because the grapes grown were Sauvignon and not Chardonnay as in the rest of the Chablis area. The Domaine makes consistently high quality wines vintage after vintage, and is regarded as one of the best exponents of this wine. It is herbaceous and limey, with the usual gooseberry aromas associated with Sauvignon – we were stunned and delighted by this wine when first we tasted it.

Domaine Sorin-Defrance
The Sorin-Defrance estate is named after Henri Sorin and his wife Madeleine Defrance, and the family has been wine-growers for generations, since 1577 in fact, and currently the two sons work the 35 hectare estate. They produce a range of wines of the area which includes 1er Cru, Aligoté and St Bris amongst others in the Chablis area of Burgundy. The vineyards are well-sited on stony slopes of chalk and clay. Every stage of growing and production is done by a member of the Sorin-Defrance family.
