Mâcon is so very often disappointing – the key is in the producer. Olivier Merlin grows his grapes organically from old vines and then adds his magic touch to produce this gem of a wine. The fruit is ripe and apricoty with a splash of crisp apples and honey. The new oak comes through giving the wine a richness and depth which makes it a perfect partner to many foods.

Olivier Merlin Olivier Merlin is recognised in the Maconnais area and beyond as being one of the best producers of the classic white style at a premium quality level. He supplements grapes from his own vineyards by buying in from carefully chosen growers with whom he works very closely. Olivier has been gradually buying land for the last ten years after having begun renting land since 1987. He uses oak in almost all his wines which gives them an extra complexity and superiority compared to other wines of the region.
