This red wine is improving with every vintage. It is a blend of 55% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc and given a long slow fermentation after which it is aged in Nevers oak barrels for 6 months, 25% of which are new each year. The balance of ripe fruit, soft tannins and mild oak creates a very appealing, easy-drinking wine with an interesting density.

Château Haut Rian Situated in Graves de Vayres, and as such entitled to the Premières Côtes de Bordeaux appellation, Château Haut Rian produces both red and white wine in a 43/56% split, as well as some very popular rosé. 76 hectares of vines owned by Michel Dietrich cultivated in gravelly soil in a maritime climate, make this an excellent example of value superior Bordeaux domaine. Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon make up most of the blend for the red with just 10% of Cabernet Franc and the wine is barrel fermented, and Semillon (70%) and Sauvignon Blanc for the white. Michel is originally from Alsace but being a graduate of both Beaune and Bordeaux and having spent 6 years working in Australia means he has a lot of experience and alternative expertise to draw on.
