	Côtes du Rhône, J Vidal-Fleury 2001 One would only expect wine of a very high standard with the name of J Vidal-Fleury on the label. There are many cheaper Côtes du Rhône, but only a few as good or better than this one! Made mostly from Grenache and Syrah, the nose is somewhat muted but blackcurrant fruit shows through, but in the mouth the wine is open, concentrated and jammy – perfect for those who enjoy full wines without an overpowering tannic structure.

J Vidal-Fleury
An old family business established in 1781, the oldest domaine in the Rhône Valley was sold to Etienne Guigal in 1985. Guigal had learnt his trade with Vidal-Fleury before setting up his own company in 1946 which of course is known the world over. Currently the two businesses are run separately to ensure the style and character of each is maintained. The Domaine of J Vidal-Fleury has only 25 hectares so they also buy in grapes and act as négociants. A new winery at Ampuis should improve already faultless wines, and are certainly amongst the best in the whole of the region.
