	Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée du Domaine, Domaine de la Charbonnière 2001 With a whopping 15% alcohol, Châteauneuf-du-Pape is never going to be for the faint-hearted. We believe this to be one of the best value Châteauneufs on the market. Made mostly from Grenache with some Mourvèdre to add complexity and spice, black cherry and cigar-box aromas lead on to a rich, bold palate of depth and length. This is a wine recommended by Jane Maquitty of the Times and scores 89points from Robert Parker.

Domaine de la Charbonnière
Although this estate has been in the same family for 90 years it is only now, with Michel Maret in control, that it has really taken off. He has taken the domain to new heights and the wines just keep on improving. The 16 hectares of vineyards are mostly in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape area with a few hectares in Vacqueyras. Vinification is traditional with no destemming, and takes place in concrete and stainless steel vats and maturation is in a combination of barriques, foudres and demi-muids. The blend is 70% Grenache and and 15% each of Syrah and Mourvèdre. The domaine is already in the premier league but may well win the cup for his wines in the future.
