	Rosso Piceno Surperiore “Vigna Montepradone”, Saladini Pilastri 2001 This wine shows an intense ruby red colour. The nose reveals intense, clean, pleasing and refined aromas which start with hints of black cherry and plum followed by those of blueberry, violet, tobacco, vanilla, liquorice and cinnamon. In the mouth the flavours correspond to the nose, with a slight tannic attack yet balanced by alcohol, good body, intense flavors, good tannins. The finish is persistent. This wine is aged for 18 months in barrique.

Saladini Pilastri
Although this property has been in the Saladini Pilastri family for centuries, it is only in the last 5 years or so that they have invested heavily in the business. This coincided with the arrival of estate manager Domenico d’Angelo. He began to transform the vineyards to make them organic and this process is almost complete. Situated in the southern part of the Marches, on the border with Abruzzi, the Mediterranean sun not only ripens the grapes wonderfully, but it helps to make rot in the vineyard a rare occurrence over the long dry summers of the region. The grapes for the red wines are Sangiovese and Montepulciano, though there are plans afoot to plant some Syrah too.
