A justifiably ever-popular claret made from vines averaging 35 years old, this top Cru Bourgeois is a blend comprising 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc. Fermented in traditional oak barrels and then aged for 16 months in new to 5 year old barriques, the toasty oak is an obvious but well-integrated feature. Vibrant blackcurrant dominates the fruit character and the soft spice and oakiness complete the whole.

Château La Tour de By One of the finest, indeed many claim it to be the finest, wines of the Médoc appellation, La Tour de By has been under the current ownership for over 40 years. Marc Pagès is very well respected by his peers and the wine he produces can comfortably rival many grander châteaux. The vineyards are enviably sited on one of the highest and best gravelly ridges of the Bas-Médoc at Bégadan and have an average age of 35 years. Cabernet Sauvignon makes up 65% of the blend and 33% Merlot with only 2% Cabernet Franc. It is fermented in traditional vats and aged in oak for 16 months. The wine is deeply coloured, powerful and tannic on the palate and with a most attractive bouquet reminiscent of violets.
