Viura is Spain’s most superior white grape and is the base for all white Rioja. It is a grape which is high in acid and when it is young offers up a lightly floral perfumed nose on the wine. The wine is fresh with a peachy vibrancy, creamy yet maintaining its pleasant crispness.

Sonsierra Sonsierra is a co-operative in the Rioja Alta area of the Rioja DO, based in the village of San Vincente de la Sonsierra, about 10 miles south of Haro. With around 200 members, controlling about 600 ha, 92% of this is devoted to red wine. The grapes grown are exclusively Tempranillo for the reds and Viura for the whites. Both of these young wines are unoaked although the bodega produces an ever-improving range of oak aged reds, from both American and French oak. Formerly the co-operative supplied grapes to one of the major Rioja houses, but on realising that a talented wine-maker could use their excellent raw material, decided to go it alone and they have never looked back. Sonsierra continues to improve and offers the consumer fantastic monetary value.
