The Del Romero co-operative was founded in 1951 when wine-growers in the southern town of Cascante pooled their resources to form a cellar. The current membership is now 1000 and following the amalgamation of co-operatives in Sesma and Los Arcos, they control 1500 hectares between these communitties, all situated in the south of Navarra. A capacity of 14 million litres is possible, made up largely of Cabernet Sauvignon, Garnacha and Tempranillo. Unlike the colder climes of Estrella in the north, the temperature here is largely warm and fruit ripens well. The Tempranillo provides a different style to the wines of Rioja. It is slightly fatter and more rounded. The maturation gives the impression that this unoaked wine has matured for longer than it has.
