Castillo del Romero, Bodegas del Romero 2002

If you like Rioja you will love this! Navarra is Rioja’s neighbour using the same grape, Tempranillo and vinified using oak barrels. Garnacha and Cabernet Sauvignon hike up the fruit intensity and the acidity zing makes this wine a very easy, light and pleasurable mouthful. Already with some age, it is perfect for drinking immediately.

Bodegas del Romero
The Del Romero co-operative was founded in 1951 when wine-growers in the southern town of Cascante pooled their resources to form a cellar. The current membership is now 1000 and following the amalgamation of co-operatives in Sesma and Los Arcos, they control 1500 hectares between these communitties, all situated in the south of Navarra. A capacity of 14 million litres is possible, made up largely of Cabernet Sauvignon, Garnacha and Tempranillo. Unlike the colder climes of Estrella in the north, the temperature here is largely warm and fruit ripens well. The Tempranillo provides a different style to the wines of Rioja. It is slightly fatter and more rounded. The maturation gives the impression that this unoaked wine has matured for longer than it has.
