Monjardin 'barrel fermented' Merlot, Bodegas de Montjardin 2003
A rosé far removed from some of the juicy bubble-gum rosados Spain can produce. From Merlot, this wine is made following the traditional "bleeding" method after brief contact with the skins. Only the free-run juice is used. The must ferments at low temperature, in barrels of 300 litres and remains there with the lees till the end of February, and shows ripe strawberry fruit and added oaky body.

Bodegas Castillo de Montjardin Castillo Monjardin is a beautiful, innovative bodega located in San Esteban, a zone of Tierra Estella in the DO of Navarra where pilgrims, on their way to Santiago de Compostela, pass through. It is surrounded by 120 hectares of its own vineyards, lying on sun-drenched slopes that during the hot summer nights are cooled by the Cierzo wind. The combination of this unique microclimate and the altitude of approximately 600 metres at which the vineyards lie, help to produce wines of singularly intense aromas.
